There are a varying number of factors to consider when choosing the correct bevel length or the width of a shearing comb
- Weather patterns – what the weather is doing for 2-3 weeks prior to shearing can affect how the wool sits on the skin.
- Individual shearer experience and style.
- Sheep breed and wool type – wool can be dense or open.
- Condition of wool – clean / dirty / dusty / sandy or pumice / or amount of vegetable matter.
- Age of stock – adult sheep vs hoggets, whethers and lambs.
